Want to be a little greener?
Got a lot of friends? A church group? Any group?
Why not try hosting a clothing swap? You just take clothes that you don’t wear, get your buddies to do the same, and VIOLA you’re set. You can do a local clothing swap and donate what ever is left over. It’s a great idea to be a little greener and a little stylish!
I don’t have pictures, but I have been doing this awesome, useful craft for years. Ever notice how your pets jump on your laundry, clean or dirty? Next time you clean your closet, take an old pillow case/sweater/t-shirt and use it as a base for your pet bed. If you use a sweater/t-shirt, just cut the arms off and you are good to go. If you wand to get fancy, you can sew the holes shut, or if your low on the craftiness, you can use ye old glue gun to glue said holes shut. Somewhere is this process, you just stuff the pillowcase/shirt with old clothes. Instant pillowbed; free, but most effective.
Want to up the ante? Just sleep on the clothes first. Now, they smell like you and are ready to escort your beloved pet to pet nirvana. You can even leave a patch open and wash/sleep on the clothes again to have them stay keen on your scent.
Let me tell you a story. Once upon a time, my neighbor said to me, “I have some extra Christmas cards I’m going to throw away”. To which I replied, “I will take them”. Then this neighbor bestowed upon me hundreds and hundreds of Christmas cards.
The moral of this story is that I now have a DIY craft project. How do you reuse those holiday gift cards? Bookmarks!
What Do You Need:
1. Packing Tape
2. Hole punch
3. Ribbon or pretty string
Ruler is optional, but recommended.
How to do it:
1. Cut or fold your paper skinnier than your packing tape.
2. Cover both sides with the packing tape.
3. Punch a hole a decent distance from the top.
4. Make a pretty string (but not super thick).
I’m already using newspaper to wrap gifts this year. Bows are a good compliment.
I did a different set of directions but I am sure this way is better. It will come out supper cute.
100 green ideas.
There are a lot of websites that talk about recycling. One that you may never have hear of is http://www.freecycle.org/ . This is a nice site that has groups all around that try to reuse. Another one is craigslist, but I feel that most people know that one.
There are shops that you can do too like local food auction, estate sales (there is a store in my area that sells lots of things from estate sales), flea markets, and art fairs. It’s a good hobby to try.
Lastly, you had art project this you have or from the road side. If you know when the local trash goes out, you can find some nifty things.
Here is my word of caution. CLEAN ANY USED ITEM!!!!1! Look for evidence of pest before you get anything used. Also, vacuum all the corners and crevasses. This will help keep your house clean of pest. Never take used mattresses or returned mattresses. Happy Hunting!
